The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay Review:
Length: Short (10 hours first time no help. 5 hours on hard the last time through)
Graphics: Excellent
Story: Excellent
Voices: Excellent
Difficulty: Easy
Replay value: Almost none- after you beat it on hard. I played it 3 times. Most people play it twice.
Should you get it: Yes, if you can get it for a cheaper price- I would recommend purchasing it used. (It won't have been used much).
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay video game on XBox is a prequel of the movie Pitch Black and then The Chronicles of Riddick. At the outset (The opening scene is a cool movie) Riddick is on the same ice-covered planet you see at the beginning of the most recent movie. He has a flashback to his escape from the Triple-Max prison Butcher Bay, and you then begin the game playing in the flashback. After the first 20 minutes of play or so you reach the "real" credits and beginning of the game. The video here is very cool, because as you are walked in custody along from your transport space-ship to the prison you can do nothing but look side to side. During this walk the prison guards give you a "no Miranda Rights here" type of speech, marching you along as the credits run. I thought this was a very cool touch and it really sucks you into the game.
Mainly this game is about sneaking and stealth in a multi-storied prison with elevators, lifts, many AC ducts and rooms and operationa/cargo areas. This is similar to MGS2(but shorter) with better graphics and more alternative ways to get places, at least in some areas.
There is also a portion of the game more involved with fist fights and using shivs or clubs against other prisoners in the ring and at one point in an area of the prison where you have to fight the Aquila Gang:
You will also have some "mechs" to kill and you get to fight inside something like a mech later in the game.
Here is a mech about to kill Riddick, (disturbing a Mech from this close and in front of him is certain death):
At one point you must also blast your way through mutated creatures that are released when you explode a bomb deep in the mining core.
If you LOVED MGS2 you should play this if you get the chance, and it is a good game to play through with your friend who just came into town for a weekend cause it is short, but there is no 2 player or online modes, so for the price it is not worth it to most gamers.
The boss battles are easy, so it is more of a "play it through and do your Riddick thing" kind of game, not a boss battle orgy.
